Celebrating World Card Making Day

Happy Saturday! Today, is World Card Making Day!!

What is World Card Making Day? It is a special holiday for card makers around the world to:

• Celebrate the creativity of handmade cards and the personal connection that they create between friends and family
• Kick off (and get a head start on) the holiday card-making season

Now, I am definitely a scrapbook page of crafter!  However, I have slowly ventured to the other side! I love receiving homemade cards, and creating them too! I do tend to create cards that are 6x6. Anything smaller, kind of scares me! LOL I think it is having a smaller canvas, that makes me stumble a bit. I love adding texture, dimension to my projects, and I can never seem to get everything I want on a small card. One time a dear friend told me, that she could not tell if the card I was creating was a card, or a scrapbook page!  LOL

However, I think it is much easier to create cards with added layers, and bold, bulky embellishments. They make such a statement, and shows the recepient that lots of love was poured into creating the card! Shows you care to send the very best!

To help celebrate this wonderful papercrafting day, I created the following card using the August Kit from Paper Poppy! 
"Thank you"
 
I fell in love with the pink crepe!! I think I was secretly holding on to this bit of pink goodness! It was so easy to twist, and turn along the bottom of the card! It was the finishing touch for all of this Jenni Bowlin happiness!

Here I created bits of layers for the center of the star. It seems that denim is the thing I am into at that moment. (So do not be surprised if it keeps popping here, and there!)

Lucky No. 3 {Paper Poppy Kit} Guest Designer

Today I have a page created with the wonderful kit items in Paper Poppy's August Kit. 
The mix of Jenni Bowlin, and Sassafras worked perfectly for this snapshot of Macie. I added bits of denim to embellish this page.
The mini Bingo Cards from Jenni Bowlin were the inspiration for my title.
"Lucky No. 3"

 Now the bingo cards are a beach theme, but I simply tucked them underneath my snapshot. How cute is that mini clothespin??? Love it, and used it to anchor my title. It was natural in color, but I used Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist in Cinder to change the color. Finished it with my favorite inexpensive embellishments, string!

I used a combination of stamps to create my title. Punched a small ticket label, and cut a number 3 from  one of the mini bingo cards. I included my journaling on one of the journaling labels. Super easy to run through your printer. I always run my text on white paper, and then with temporary adhesive, adhere the label on top of my printing. A great alternative to my own handwriting!  LOL

"Dream" with Paper Poppy Kit {Guest Designer}

Happy Wednesday!
I have been having so much fun creating with the August Kit from Paper Poppy Kit Company. I loved all the vintage pieces of the kit, and of course, the Indie Collection from Sassafras! 
Here is the page I created:
"Dream"

One of my favorite items in the kit, were the pieces of vintage dictionary paper.I inked all over the page, very lightly. I tucked it behind this sweet snapshot of my Miss Macie. (I am so glad, to have this snapshot  to remind me of the everyday moments.) I decided to use bits of denim, too. I thought it complimented well with the vintage feel of the page. I have a few pairs of old jeans from the kids. I simply cut out the size I need, and cut it on my Big Shot. I cut a tag, and a couple of flowers from the denim fabric.
A couple of details:

 

 
I loved the premade flowers that came in the kit, too! I simply tucked a denim flower underneath!

This circle embellishment is created by using the large doilie in the kit. However, I simply cut the outer portion, and love the final doilie that was revealed.

Paper Poppy Kit Co. {Guest Designer}

Well, yesterday marked a new adjustment period in my life. It was the first time, that I did not have at least one of my children at home. My youngest started Kindergarten, and it was a full day for her. (and me) It really felt very quiet, and ever so lonely. It was uneasy for me, because I felt like I was forgetting something important. I kept thinking about my sweet Macie, and hoping that she would adjust well to the schedule.
Roman, and Gabi I knew would be fine. However, being a Mom, I always worry.
So now, I need to try and fill the void during the day. Of course, there is always housework, and laundry to do. However, today I decided to simply cook dinner a little earlier, and bake homemade chocolate chip cookies. (I knew this would put a smile on their faces when they returned home.) So this is so new to me, and I hope that little by little, I will adjust, too.
Now, on to something that makes me happy.......creating! I am very excited to be Guest Designing for the Paper Poppy Kit Co. A very big thank you to Aphra Bolyer, for the amazing September Kit!!! It is full of beautiful coordinating cardstock, Sassafras, beautiful red ribbon, Thickers, Jenni Bowlin goodness, and lots of fun vintage details. My first assignment was to create a scrapbook page using the following sketch:

  

Okay, one of the elements I loved about Aphra's Sketch, was including one snapshot. (Now, I know you could change this, but you know me, I am pretty much a one snapshot kind of gal!) I pretty much followed her sketch pretty closely, as you can see below:
"Just Lovely"


This page is of my beautiful girl, Gabriela. I had taken this snapshot on the evening of my brother-n-law's dress rehearsal. The location was a beautiful vineyard, and I was happy that Gabi paused for a few moments in front of the camera. In this snapshot, I  realize how much she has blossomed in the past year. I have been told on many occasions that I am a little bit protective over her, and you know what, I am okay with this. (I really I am.)
The red in her shirt, complimented the Sassafras Eclectic Elegance patterned paper that I used for part of the background. I knew that red would be my primary color, as I was designing this page.

I created a mini banner from the border strip on the bottom of the patterned paper. My ribbon, and flower served as the anchors. Now, if it can be embossed, I will emboss any element on my page!! I love this simple technique, and embossed my punched flowers.

 
 
I will be honest with you, I did not want to use this ribbon! It was so pretty!!! LOL However, with a few twists, and turns, this ribbon turned out to be the finishing detail to my page! 
This page turned out to be my favorite from the weekend!!! With the perfect scrapbooking kit, and a fabulous sketch, it makes the design process easy!!
